B i o g r a p h y
Kevin Antoine was born on February 7, 1989 in Knokke/Heist, Belgium.
He discovered music rather late, at age sixteen, when a friend let him play his first notes on his guitar. His interest for the instrument quickly increased and he started to study guitar autodidact, with help from books, magazines and the internet. He also enrolled in an electric guitar workshop with bluesguitarist Eric Neels.
At age 18 he left highschool and found work as a store attendant.
However, he didn't accept this fate and since his love for the instrument turned into a real passion, he decided to enroll in the music school in his hometown of Bruges where he attended night school for adults. His guitarteacher for the first two years was Johan Vandecaveye, who is now the principal of the Art Academy of Music, Diction and Dance in Torhout, Belgium. From his 3rd year he received lessons from Peter Gykiere and was already able to teach in a small music school.
He was accepted in the Royal Conservatory of Ghent in 2012 where he studied under internationally acclaimed musicians Yves Storms and Johan Fostier. He is also taking a minor in composition with maestro Dirk Brossé.
Kevin Antoine has performed as a classical guitarist in Ghent, Bruges, Sint-Niklaas, Antwerp and has taken part in masterclasses with Eric Franceries (France) , Heiki Mätlik (Estonia) and Matthew McAllister (Scotland).
In 2012 he was the leadguitarist in 'Hermes & Friends'. They have performed at Burgrock and in local bars. The singer went on to participate in 'The Voice van Vlaanderen' and Antoine then started his education. Eventually creative differences caused to group to split.
Kevin has experience as a guitarteacher since 2011, starting at JMA Sint Andries.
In 2012 he was the guitarteacher at the Abdij van Zevenkerken and from 2014 until now he has been teaching classical, acoustic and electric guitar at JMA Partita. He currently also teaches guitar in Muziek op School in the centre op Bruges (since 2016) and Ars Musica in Wondelgem (since 2017). He has about 50 students.
As of 2016 Kevin Antoine has graduated with a Bachelorsdegree in Classical Guitar. However, his ambitions didn't stop there and he has studied popmusic for 1 year at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent combined with guitar- and combolessons at the Music Academy of Ghent (de Poel) to expand his musical knowledge and skills.
